Cruise summary report
Cruise Info. | |
Ship name (ship code) | RRS Charles Darwin (74AB) |
Cruise identifier | CD63 |
Cruise period | 1991-10-02 — 1991-10-25 |
Status | Completed |
Port of departure | Barry, United Kingdom |
Port of return | Newport, United Kingdom |
Purpose | Research |
Objectives | 1. To map more closely the area covered by a metal-rich layer previously identified at two locations within the study area. To search for traces of relict layers within the sediment column.
2. To determine the time history of preservation of carbonate in the sediments at various depths and sites both on and surrounding the Porcupine Abyssal Plain. 3. To determine the sedimentation history (including turbidites) of the Porcupine Abyssal Plain over the last few hundred thousand years using piston cores. |
