PurposeResearch
Objectives1. To repeat and extend the north-east Irish Sea and Bristol Channel beam trawl surveys carried out each September.
2. To collect data on weight at length of sole and plaice throughout the area worked.
3. To determine the distribution and abundance of juvenile and adult sole in the Irish Sea, Bristol Channel and Celtic Sea during the spawning season.
4. To tag, cod, sole and plaice if the opportunity arises. No sole, plaice nor cod were tagged. However 10 tows were made at the end of the cruise and 32 anglerfish were caught, tagged and released.
5. To collect ovaries from pre-spawning sole in Liverpool Bay and samples of 'running' female sole from off Start Point and Trevose Head.
