Cruise Info. | |
Ship name (ship code) | RRS Discovery (74E3) |
Cruise identifier | D235C |
Cruise period | 1998-07-15 — 1998-08-03 |
Status | Completed |
Port of departure | Southampton, United Kingdom |
Port of return | Southampton, United Kingdom |
Purpose | Research |
Objectives | Multi-channel seismic investigation of the accretionary processes at the Reykjanes Ridge (Mid-Atlantic Ridge). To detail the geometry and extent of the crustal melt body already imaged duirng CD81 on the RRS Charles Darwin.
Main tasks: 1. Acquire 34 across-axis and 5 along-axis multi-channel seismic profiles over an axial volcanic ridge segment. 2. Acquire gravity and magnetic data along all profiles. 3. Acquire 24 XBT measurements. 4. Test deployment of a low-frequency electromagnetic underwater receiver (LEMUR). |
