| Objectives | Groundfish survey of juvenile demersal fish
1. To obtain indices of abundance of 0-year-old and 1-year-old whiting, cod, hake and haddock by means of a stratified trawl survey in the north-western Irish Sea, for use in ICES stock assessment procedures. 2. To carry out a series of comparative trawls with the MAFF vessel Corystes to investigate the relative fishing power of the two vessels. 3. To obtain further information on patterns of abundance, size-composition and diet of groundfish species in the north-western Irish Sea. |
