Port of returnBirkenhead, United Kingdom
PurposeResearch
ObjectivesThe objectives are to recover moored instrumentation, i.e. STABLE, PMP, Wave Buoy and ADCP frame previously deployed at the mouth of the River Dee. Also to carry out at least a CTD tidal cycle in the Welsh Channel and the Hilbre Swash, to study turbulence and SPM processes.
In the following narrative all times are UMT The Prince Madog was loaded on the 28/03/2004, mainly light boxes and tools, as it is a recovery cruise. We sailed from Menai Bridge at 08:30 on the 29/03/2004, arriving to the Welsh Channel by 12:30. A 13 hour CTD yoyo was carried out sampling every 1/2 hour. The CTD station was finished at 01:00 30/03/2004 to allow the crew to rest for the recovery later in the morning. At 05:20 the anchor was lifted and we proceeded to retrieve the Toroid Marker buoy. Then we tried to retrieve the ADCP frame but it failed to surface so we had to drag for it. It came on board at 06:20. At 06:50 we left for the Hilbre Swash and retrieved the Wave Buoy at 08:20. We anchored to start a 25 hour CTD yoyo at 09:00. 10;00 finished CTD yoyo, recovered PMP, recovered STABLE.
