PurposeResearch
ObjectivesDynamoe - BSD Western Core Box Acoustics - cruise was part of a series of Q3 cruises carried out bi-annually for the Variability in the Southern Ocean Project (VSOE) (part of the Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics DYNAMOE programme). Cruise aims were to supplement biological and physical information collected during the seasons major core programme cruise (JR70) thus providing an intra-annual component to the understanding of the South Georgia marine ecosystem. Echo-sounder data collected during the cruise was used to calculate mean volume backscattering (MVBS) and to estimate zooplankton (primarily krill) biomass. CTD probe casts and XBT provided physical oceanography information.
Sea level work was also undetaken on this cruise (refer to JR74 cruise report). Geoff Hargreaves (POL) was the PSO for this work
Chief scientistSharon Grant (British Antarctic Survey)
