PurposeResearch
ObjectivesObjectives:
1. To collect optical and hydrographic profiles in and around the Mersey Estuary.
2. To collect water samples to provide information on the specific inherent optical properties in these waters.

Narrative:
Five stations were visited on 05 Jan 2006 in the Liverpool Bay area around the mouth of the Mersey and Dee estuaries. A further six stations were visited on 06 Jan 2006 within the Mersey Estuary. At all stations, optical and hydrographic vertical profiles were collected, along with surface water samples.

Parameters measured from the water samples were: Suspended Particulate Matter concentration, Total pigment concentration, Absorption spectra of dissolved organic matter, Salinity, and Absorption spectra of suspended particles retained on filters.
