PurposeResearch
Objectives1. To recover and deploy SmartBuoy moorings at the West Gabbard and Warp and collect calibration samples (AE004).
2. Deploy an ADCP frame at West Gabbard (AE004)
3. Collect water samples at other sites as time allows (AE004)

Sailed from Lowestoft on Monday 12th January at 16:00 directly to the West Gabbard. On arrival it was noted that the Waverider was not in position and it was subsequently discovered to be tangled with the SmartBuoy. Both buoys had obviously been damaged since deployment. The SmartBuoy was hooked and lifted aboard but the Waverider was still in the water only secured by the rubber cord mooring twisted around the SmartBuoy wires. A length of the wire and rubber cord were hauled on-board, the rubber cord cut and the SmartBuoy mooring retrieved. The waverider was then retrieved safely. A new waverider, a lander with ADCP and a new SmartBuoy were deployed without incident. Water samples and profiles were collected before and after the deployments.
The ship steamed overnight to the Warp. A water sample was collected at 07:00. The SmartBuoy was recovered and re-deployed by 09:00. During the recovery there was an incident when the molgoggler was torn free of its mountings causing the wire to the net drum to strike the leading hand on the chest. A further water sample and profile was collected at 10:00, before returning to Lowestoft for 17:00
