| Objectives | 1) To install and comission a data logging system based on the PDP 11/34 computer
2) To measure the towing loads and geometry of a modified wing trawl 3) To test sub-surface buoys and sedimentation rigs 4) To demonstrate various aspects of research work at sea (training exercise for new members of staff) The installation of the PDP 11/34 computer system began on the 28/02/1978 and the explorer remained in port until the installation and preliminary testing of the sytem were completed on the 03/03/1978. ''Explorer'' berthed in Aberdeen on the 06/03/1978 till the 07/03/1978 to undergo the first part of the acceptance trials. The official acceptance test was completed and the ship returned to Aberdeen berthing on the 08/03/1978. ''Explorer'' set sail again on the 09/03/1978. The ship docked in Aberdeen on the 10/03/1978 to await the staff joining for the training exercise on the 13/03/1978 to the 14/03/1978 when the vessel made 2 trips. |
