PurposeResearch
ObjectivesThe objectives of the cruise were to continue investigations of the deep structure beneath the north Scottish shelf and margin and across the intervening deep channel on to the Faeroe Rise.

First two weeks: planned to make a preliminary survey of the shelf and margin to the west of the Outer Hebrides and to carry out prelimnary traverses across the main seamounts and banks between Rockall and the Faeroe Islands (observing bathymetry, gravity, magnestics, seismic profiling and using sonobuoys)

Second two weeks: original plan to carry out sono-buoy refraction surveys to determine sediment thickness beneath the Faeroe-Shetland channel and beneath shelf gravity anomalies

Third two weeks: further lines across the shelf, margin and parts of the Faeroe Rise were planned.
