ObjectivesYoung Fish Survey 2002: Team 4.

Aim:
To carry out an inshore beam trawl survey of parts of Morecambe Bay for juvenile flatfish year class size estimation and collect data on young demersal fish in relation to the environment.

2m wooden beam trawl with 3mm-mesh liner. 10 minute duration tows and distance trawled recorded using GPS.

Team 4: Morecambe Bay; 31st August - 5th September, 14th-17th September
Morecambe: FV Hope, 31st August - 5th September, 5 days fishing
Fleetwood: FV Albion, 14-17th September, 3 days fishing

Results:
1. 61 valid tows completed successfully. Catch rates of sole were low maximum of 8 taken from a 10-minute tow and 46 for plaice.

2. At each station all the fish were identified and measured, shrimp catch was estimated volumetrically and benthic species recored. Observations of temperature, salinity and sediment type also collected.
