| Objectives | Aims:
1. To collect surface and vertical oblique plankton samples. 2. To make comparative hauls with a pair of 20" high speed plankton samplers, (a) both towed by TELLINA, simultaneously; (b) towed by TELLINA and FAITHFUL simultaneously. 3. To sample the plaice larvae with both 20" TTN and 4 m beam trawl over two or more tidal cycles. 4. To trawl for juvenile plaice tagged in November 1972, and tag juvenile plaice. 5. To catch larval plaice over 24 hours at regular intervals for feeding studies. 6. To release sea bed drifters in three positions off Filey and one off Scarborough. 7. To collect plaice eggs and return live to Lowestoft for Mr Avery. 8. To collect a water sample for Dr Reynolds. Results: Monthly plankton survey made. comparisons between 2 unceased 20" TTN trawls. trawling and tagging juvenile plaice. Tellina towed a 20" TTN and Faithful towed a 4m beam trawl, both once an hour over a tidal cycle. both vessels towed 20" TTNs to compare catch rates, 12 tows made. plankton stations worked. 24 plankton samples - Scarborough and Flamborough 25 tows made by Tellina with 20" TTN Samples taken by both 20" TTN and 4m beam trawl hourly over tidal cycle 211 juvenile plaice tagged and released 4 batches of 25 seabed drifters released on spring and neap tides 1 water sample taken |
