Aim:
To carry out an inshore beam trawl survey of parts of the North Sea, English Channel and Morecambe Bay for juvenile flatfish year class size estimation and collect data on young demersal fish in relation to the environment.

2m wooden beam trawl with 3mm-mesh liner. 10 minute duration tows and distance trawled recorded using GPS.

Team 2: Thames; Thames Estuary; 30th August to 7th September.
South and upper Thames survey: FV Ticiono, 30th August - 2nd September, 3 days trawling
Northern Thames survey: RV Fisher Lassie, 4th - 7th, 3 days fishing

Results:
1. 81 valid tows completed successfully. Samples of sole and plaice, 7-26cm preserved for otolith studies. 80 juvenile sole tagged for migration studies.

2. At each station all the fish were identified and measured, shrimp catch was estimated volumetrically and benthic species recored. Observations of temperature, salinity and sediment type also collected.
