Description
Summary

During 1998-1999 in the framework of a research project 'Development of an integrated policy towards the sustainable management of Pagasitikos gulf' monthly samplings were performed. The physical parameters measured by the Oceanography lab of the University of Thessaly, were water temperature, salinity and oxygen profiles using a CTD and water currents with an ADCP covering the whole area of the gulf as well as the connection channels with Aegean Sea and north Evoikos. Samplings took place during 7 field trips (27/2/1999; 27/3/1999; 8/5/1999; 17/6/1999; 21/6/1999 13/9/1999; 17/11/1999) with a vertical resolution of 1m, in a dense grid of 59 stations. For the estimation of nutrient concentrations (Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonium, Phosphate, Dissolved Organic Phosphate, Silicate, Chlorophyll-a,), 9 stations were used by the Water Authority of the Prefecture of Magnisia covering the area in front of the city of Volos, the area of the sewage outfall, the central gulf, the Trikeri channel and the outer area influenced by the Aegean and Evoikos waters. Additionally biotic parameters (Bacteria, Phytoplankton, and Zooplankton) were measured by the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, both in pelagic and benthic systems during 16 field trips (21/12/1998; 14/1/1999; 24/2/1999; 7/4/1998; 28/4/1998; 13/5/1998; 27/5/1998; 5/4/1999; 30/5/1999; 30/6/1999; 29/7/1999; 30/8/1999; 29/9/1998; 20/10/1998; 19/11/1998; 14/9/1999) at standard depths (0, 10, 30, 60, 100m).
