Description
Summary

The objective of the multidisciplinary research carried out in 1977-78 was to assess the state of the pollution of the coastal zone of the Gulf of Gdansk as well as to determine the main sources of pollution and their impact on the biocenosis. The project also includes studies on the sanitary state of the Puck Lagoon carried out in 1964-66. Samples were taken ten times at 13 coastal and 9 stations in the central part of the area. An analysis of the municipal sewage from Gdynia inflowing to the Puck Lagoon was also completed. In autumn 1977 and spring-summer 1978 the material for analyses was taken at 19 sampling stations located along 3 profiles in regions of considerable anthropogenic pressure and one reference profile located in a relatively unpolluted area. Samples were also taken from the stations located at the fairway and in the docks of Gdansk and Gdynia. Apart from the monitoring of the marine environment, observations were made of birds' mortality as a result of oil pollution. A catalogue of point sources of pollution and exposure tests of some selected organisms was compiled. Based on earlier data, the load of contaminants inflowing to the Gulf of Gdansk and the concentration of selected toxicants were studied. The results, in the form of mean value tabulations, diagrams, maps etc., are presented in the final elaboration. The source data (in typescript form) exist at DAE IEP only for biological parameters, biotests and part of the hydrological determinations.
