Description
Summary

Since 1981 the National Centre for Marine Sciences of the National Council for Scientific Research in Lebanon has carried out a project to study the sea currents in the area of the Lebanese coast. Several stations with self-recording RCM-4 Aanderaa current meters were set up in the coastal zone of Lebanon at depths down to 100 m (the accuracy in measuring current velocities is 1 cm/s in magnitude and 5º in direction). Current meters were placed at depths of 25 m below the surface, and near the bottom. The current velocities, water temperature and electrical conductivity were recorded every 10 or 20 minutes. The average length of continuous observations was approximately 70 days. Individual series with observations continuing up to 140 days were obtained.
