Alkalinity, acidity and pH of the water column

The aim of the research is to evaluate active water reaction pH (acid or alkaline) of different regions of the Curonian Lagoon. Biological and biochemical processes occurring in water body, development of water plants, migration forms of chemical elements depends on water pH. In accordance with the national Curonian Lagoon monitoring programme, pH investigations from 1962 to 1979 were carried out three times a year, since 1980 - every month according to HELCOM methods at surface and bottom water layers. From 1962 to 1992 the investigations of pH were carried out in the whole Curonian Lagoon, since 1993 - in the north part of the water body which belongs to the Lithuania during the complex research expeditions by the cutter 'Gintaras'. The data are fully quality controlled. Systematic certification of laboratories, participation in an international intercalibrations, internal control, introduced managing system for researches' quality, use of high quality reagents determine quality of data. All data is stored in archive (in table forms on paper) and is saved on hard disk.
