Ria de Pontevedra (Galicia, NW Spain)

Inorganic chemical composition of sediment or rocks

The different stations for the sampling of molluscs were laid out to cover the area of the Ria of Pontevedra opposite the Cellulose Company (ENCE) and the Chloride-Ash Company (ELNOSA). Rock mussels, clams and cockles were sampled. The frequency of samples was twice yearly. Rock samples were also sampled at other points of the Ria of Pontevedra (Cangas/Aldan, Bueu/Mourisca, Bueu/Peneda, Bueu/Aguete, Marin/Portacel, Pontevedra/Placeres, Poio/Combarro, Poio/Raxo, Sanxenxo). Also reference value samples were taken at the Rias of Vigo and Arosa. Total mercury was analyzed using cold stream technique, and methylmercury using GC-ECD.
