Description
Summary

The DBDB5 (Digital Bathymetric Data Base - 5 minute grid) data set contains digital bathymetric data for the world oceans interpolated on to a 5 min by 5 min latitude/longitude grid. The data were compiled in the United States by the Naval Ocean Research and Development Agency (NORDA) and the Naval Oceanographic Office (USNOO). An earlier version of the data set was released under the title 'SYNBAPS II'. The revised data set contains a re-worked version of the bathymetry of the northern hemisphere and now includes the Arctic Ocean. It also contains a slightly modified version of the southern hemisphere bathymetry. The data were prepared by interpolation between contours digitised at 200m intervals from 1 inch/degree longitude bathymetric charts available to the US Navy up to 1983. The 5 min grid of the DBDB5 data set contains some 8 million depth values. Depths are given in uncorrected metres based on a 1500 m/sec sound speed.
