Country | Italy ![]() |
Time period | From July 1980 to October 1983 |
Ongoing | No |
Geographical area | A network of about 340 stations covering the Alboran Sea |
Observations | |
Parameters | Phosphate concentration parameters in the water column; Horizontal velocity of the water column (currents); Silicate concentration parameters in the water column; Temperature of the water column; Electrical conductivity of the water column |
Instruments | Current meters |
Description | |
Summary | The circulation of the deep water mass in the western Albornan Sea was studied. Interaction between the three different water masses, the Atlantic, the Levantine and the Deep Western Mediterranean water, causes complicated flow patterns. Instruments are calibrated and intercalibrated on a regular basis in the SACLANTCEN. Derivation of salinity and density values from temperature and conductivity is carried out according to UNESCO standard algorithms. Standard meteorological observations complete the station records. |
