Description
Summary

The marine sediment properties on Adriatic continental shelf were analyzed in the framework of the multidisciplinary monitoring program of the Adriatic Sea scheduled to determine the current state of the ecosystem and pollution in relation to its basic hydrological features and dynamics. The original data were controlled, analyzed and worked up by the originator who holds the principal quality control responsibility. Nevertheless before the dataset has been considered as part of the database it has been submitted to the group of experts charged with final data validation and reporting. The sediment samples were collected during three cruises. The 1983 cruise is concerned with the stations located in the Western Adriatic Sea; the 1984 cruise is concerned with the stations in Eastern Adriatic, whereas all stations were occupied during the 1990 cruise. At each station two samples were collected, a superficial (0-3 cm) sample and a subsuperficial (10-15 cm) The data are stored as sample series per station, per cruise for each parameter set (physical and mineralogic composition, chemical parameters, contaminants, heavy metals, radioactivity). The data are supplied by 3 Italian institutions: CNR, Istituto per la Geologia Marina, Bologna; Dipartimento di Biologia e Fisiologia Generale, Universita' di Parma; Dipartimento di Scienze Ambientali, Universita' di Venezia.
