Instruments

Current meters; water body temperature sensor

Description
Summary

The survey on subsurface currents conducted in the Comino Channels was targeted to identify the general phenomenology of the sea currents regime in the channels with the potential scope of exploitation as an alternative source of energy. Two current meters were deployed. One in mid-column position at 19m from bottom and the other close to the bottom at 5.75m from sea bed (in a total depth of 40m). The upper meter was an Aanderaa RCM7 and measured current vector, water temperature and conductivity at 2min intervals from 11- 26th February; the lower instrument was an Aanderaa RCM4 and measured current vector, water temperature and conductivity at 10min intervals from 7th January to 13th March. The latter measurements were taken together with those at the station in the South Comino Channel for the same period of time.
