In 1985, a co-ordinated water control programme was initiated by the Oresund Vattenvardsforbund (The Sound Coastal Water Committee) for the Swedish part of the Sound. During 1996, the monitoring programme included physico-chemical investigations and investigations of benthic fauna, phytoplankton and sediments. Data for point-source and diffuse inputs of nutrients, BOD and toxic substances were further collected. The data were collected once a month on cruises with a research vessel at 4 stations. The data are quality controlled using a combination of in-house software and manual methods. Simultaneous biological sampling was performed.
