This dataset is compromised of the social, economic, demographic and fishing characteristics of 41 small scale fishers who fish partially or wholly on coral reefs. Fishers were based in the west Indian Ocean on the three main inhabited islands of the Seychelles (Mahé (n=23), Praslin (n=16) and La Digue (n=2)). Data were collected between June and July 2018, through semi-structured interviews comprising open and closed ended questions. These data were collected as part of a NERC DTP studentship “Capturing change in ecosystem service delivery from coral reefs” (grant code: NE/L002604/1 with additional support from a core grant to the Stockholm Resilience Centre by Mistra) and form the basis of the publication “Fishers perceptions of ecosystem service change associated with climate-disturbed coral reefs” (People and Nature, 2021). Data were collected by Anna Woodhead, Lancaster University (UK) and by Stephanie Marie, Marie-Corinne Balett and Clara Belmont from the Seychelles Fishing Authority (Seychelles).
