The ''Explorer'' had to return to Aberdeen on the 06/06/1979 till the 12/06/1979 due to crew problems. The ship anchored in Thurso Bay on the 16/06/1979 for repairs, and returned again to pick up spare netzonde equiptment. Some working time was lost due to dense patches of fog and gale force winds. Due to a delay in sailing, part 1 of the cruise was canceled. There was insufficient time to survey the JONIS line.
