Cruise period1996-08-29 — 1996-09-24
StatusCompleted
Port of departureSouthampton, United Kingdom
Port of returnFalmouth, United Kingdom
PurposeResearch
ObjectivesThe first of a series of cruises to the same area involving 17 European Partners funded under an EU contract (BENGAL). General objective: study of seasonal changes in organic and inorganic fluxes to deep-sea floor and the benthic processes affecting its incorporation in sediments.
Main cruise tasks:
1. Recover and redeploy long-term moorings (Sed. Trap; Bathysnap, MAC)
2. Deploy and recover short-term moorings (NIOZ Lander, Sediment Traps, .Amphipod Traps, Bathysnack, Biofeed).
3. Obtain series of benthic samples and photographs (multiple corer, box corer, OTSB, Wasp).
4. Water column observations with CTD (water collection, marine snow profiling camera).
