PurposeResearch
ObjectivesThe original intention of the survey was to obtain bathymetric, magnetic and sub-bottom profiles across the Porcupine Bank and the adjacent continental margin. A number of scattered sub-bottom pfofiles have been made in this area, notably by Curray, Moore, Belderson and Stride (1966) and Lagaay and Collette (1967) only one of which (Lagaay and Collette) has so far been published.
The poor weather conditions encountered throughout the survey often made it difficult to obtain satisfactory sub-bottom profiles and greater emphasis was placed on the magnetometer and bathymetric survey north of latitude 53°N and out to 13°W.
