PurposeResearch
ObjectivesAutosub Long Range Deployments in the southern Weddell Sea. This project aimed to study the region near the front of Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf using an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) to measure water properties and currents along a series of transects linking ship-based observations to the north with sub-ice observations in the south.

Measurements
Physical oceanography
Subsurface temperature and salinity measurementsQuantity: track kilometres = 203
Description: Along-track data collected by AUV operating between 0 and 950 m below the surface, mostly beneath permanent ice cover. Pressure, temperature and conductivity recorded by two CTD systems (Seabird SBE-52 and Idronaut OceanSeven 304), currents above and below the vehicle recorded by two RDI 300 kHz ADCPs, optical backscatter recorded by Wetlabs ECO-FLNTU fluorometer/scatterometer, and mircrostructure recorded by RSI MicroRider.
