Purpose | Research |
Objectives | The cruise was carried out within the framework of the DFG Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 754 "Climate-Biogeochemical Interactions in the Tropical Ocean". In the oxygen minimum zone off Peru, oxygen deficient waters extend vertically from the near-surface to depths below 400m. The overarching goal of the cruise was to investigate benthic and pelagic cycling of nutrients, oxygen, and trace metals by measuring benthic and pelagic nutrient, oxygen, and trace metal fluxes and cycling processes as well as determining organic matter export in the oxygen minimum zone during austral fall. |
