ObjectivesThe overarching aim of the CARES and COCO-VOC projects is to understand the controls on sulfur gases and other volatile carbon compounds in the marine environment. The DY195 goal was to investigate air-sea gas exchange in the international waters West of Ireland, specifically the biogeochemical processes that influence seawater concentrations, the resultant air-sea fluxes and the chemical and physical processes that determine the fate of these gases in the marine atmosphere. The knowledge gained from the observations made during DY195 will enable a thorough assessment of the global impact of marine sulfur and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
