PurposeResearch
ObjectivesFirst in a series of cruises to study physical and biogeochemical processes in the Clyde Sea which form part of the CCMS Restricted Exchange Environment programme and EU program 'OAERRE' (Oceanographic Applications for Eutrophication in Regions of Restricted Exchange).
Main objectives:
1) To investigate processes of vertical and horizontal exchange in the Clyde Sea;
2) To characterise pelagic microplankton communities and quantify their production and respiration rates;
3) To measure sediment properties and quantify benthic degradation rates.
Tasks:
1) Lay and recover oceanographic moorings on the Clyde Sill and Kilbrannon Sound;
2) Survey hydrographic, chemical and biological distributions in the Clyde Sea;
3) Obtain shallow (<30cm) and deep (~3m) sediment cores.
