PurposeResearch
ObjectivesThe cruise was the English contribution to the International Tri-ennial Mackerel and Horse mackerel egg survey, 2004. These surveys are co-ordinated through ICES WGMEGS to provide estimates of Spawning Stock Biomass for both these species. They comprise both plankton sampling and fishing in the mackerel and horse mackerel spawning areas on the continental shelf to the west of Europe.
In addition, the English cruise carried out some further plankton sampling for larvae of the edible crab in the English Channel.
