Objectives1) Tests with the otterboard instrument set were carried out using a midwater trawl in the Bjorne Fiord

The ship docked in Bergen from the 22/08/1969 until the 23/08/1969 to receive a modified otterboard instrument set by CIIR (Oslo) and a scientist joined to from the institue to take part in the subsequent trials. Short breaks in Bergen were made on the 25/08/1969 and the 27/08/1969 to land members of the crew and clarify terms of the fishing permit. The ship arrived in Aberdeen on the 29/08/1969 to land an ill stoker, and was delayed due to generator troubles. ''Explorer'' sailed on the 01/09/1969 to undergo a short series of tests in the Buchan Deeps and docked later that day.
