PurposeResearch
ObjectivesHydrographic and nephelometric survey to water mass studies and characterisation of SPM dynamics off the northern Portuguese margin during moderated (low energetic) winter conditions. The cruise was held during 10 days of weak southwesterly winds that occurred after several weeks of storm conditions. Occupied 120 CTD stations approximately 10km apart in the area 41-42degN, from the coast to 10degW and to a maximum depth of 1500m. Observations at all stations include nephelometer, OBS, pH, O2 and current profiling. SPM sampling in order to characterise nepheloid layers (surface and bottom). Nutrient sampling over the water column. Near botom phosphate sampling at selected stations.
