Objectives1. To perform hydrographic surveys along the Standard Rockall section (Ellett Line).
2. Recover current meter moorings at Stations F and M either side of Anton Dohrn Seamount.
3. Obtain 501 surface samples of sea water from Anton Dohrn to Sound of Mull for Technesium studies.
4. Hydrophone Survey in Rockall Channel and Minch to monitor cetacean activity.
5. Deploy 2 moorings on the Wyville Thomson Ridge, WTT and WTB.
6. Obtain cores and photographs from 2 stations either side of the Ridge in ~1100m, WTS and WTNa.
7. Conduct various CTD lines along and across the ridge.
8. Opportunistic photographic, coring and CTD work in the Minch due to the weather.
The cruise was divided into 2 legs, Objectives 1 to 4 being covered by Leg 1. There was no sign of moorings F and M despite an extensive acoustic search. Argos Alerts had been received from both these moorings prior to the cruise. All other Objectives on Leg 1 were achieved.
Leg 2 was affected by adverse weather conditions towards the end of the cruise resulting in Objective 8 being added. Objective 6 was largely achieved. WTNa was not an ideal site from a coring perspective so a new site at WTNb was chosen as an alternative. Only one mooring was deployed, namely VTT. Only a few CTDs were worked as part of Objective 7.
