PurposeResearch
ObjectivesTo study the biology and related sedimentology of the spring plankton bloom. Second part of two leg cruise. This was the second leg of the sixth cruise in a series of 7 cruises for the LOIS Shelf Edge Study (SES). The aim of SES is to study exchange between the Scottish continental shelf and adjacent waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. The main objective of leg B was to study the biology and related sedimentology of the spring phytoplankton bloom. Because of the threat posed by intensive commercial fishing, 3 mooring laid during leg A were recovered. Sediment cores were taken from water depths of 1000m to 2000m, and 3 groups of Argos-tracked drifters were laid.
